Music is in the air, as the Audubon jazz choir groups are in full swing starting this month. The first group is called “Voices Only” and the second group is called “Sound Waves.” The first contest is the WIC contest on Jan. 27 in Council Bluffs at Iowa Western Community College. Both groups will be performing along with the jazz band. Senior Maddie Christensen, member of “Voices Only,” shares why she’s excited for this Jazz Choir season, “I’m really looking forward to hopefully making it to the jazz championships and being 1A Champs. As a Senior, I am going to miss jazz choir a lot because I’ve had many great experiences.”
The group,“Voices Only” are performing “Rhythm of Love” with solos by Maddie Christensen, Morgan Malloy, and Kaitlin Anderson; “My Funny Valentine,” with solos by Bradley Nissen and Megan Deist; and “You’d be so Nice to Come Home To,” with solos by Aaron Ketcham and Maddie Christensen.
The second group, “Sound Waves,” are singing, “Reasons Why,” “I Saw Him Standing There” by the Beatles, and “I Could Write A Book.”
A few upcoming events to look forward to is the IHSMA Jazz Choir Contest on Feb. 10, the Jazz Showcase on Mar. 14., which Audubon is hosting, and finally the Iowa Jazz Championships on Apr. 1. Last year the group got 2nd at the Jazz Championships and this year they hope to take the 1st place title home.
