All the way from Treviso, Italy, AFS Student Caterina Rossi, at Audubon High school, is doing what she calls “living the American dream.”
Rossi, aka Kate to most of Audubon, had to get used to moving over halfway across the world to spend a year in the US. The number one thing she had to get used to was the big proportions and all the fatty food that Americans eat. But there were some fatty foods she couldn’t hate on: doughnuts and pancakes.
Another thing that Rossi really enjoyed was cross-country. She loves running and getting outside to breath in the fresh air. That could be related to her favorite thing to do in Italy, which was track or simply running. But there was a lot more that Rossi had planned or wanted to get from the so-called “American dream”. Which was simply to visit as many states as possible and see what the US has to offer. She really enjoys meeting nice people and is especially grateful for her host family, Mark and Sandy Nissen.
Host brother Bradley Nissen is just as grateful, he said, “So far getting involved with the AFS program has been a great experience and I’ve enjoyed having Kate as a part of my family.”
