Mara Küchler is a foreign exchange student this year from Brueggen, Germany. When first coming to America she said, “It’s like in the movies,” and that her first couple days were “really, really good.” The Svoboda family is hosting her this year and Küchler said that “I [already] felt [at] home when I was here for one week, I don’t know why, but I think it’s because of the school spirit and all the lovely people here in school, and town, and also my host family.” Küchler is happy that she’s in Audubon because she enjoys the landscape and other experiences here, rather than in big cities, and “students get to think more about the little things.”
Küchler is known for her love of food and is often seen with some sort of snack. Senior Alaina Torneten said, “Mara loves food and makes a point of juggling it in her life; I admire her for that.” She talks about how in Germany, peanut butter isn’t as popular as it is in America and also said that she misses the bread back home. Junior Shelby Chizek said, “I like to sneak her food, she eats a lot until she gets caught in class. If you like to eat food and joke around, you’ll get along with her.”
Many people are happy that Küchler is staying in Audubon; Chizek describes Küchler as funny, crazy and says that she likes her humor. “I think everyday is a memory, because everyday is different,” is what Küchler said when it comes to her experience so far. Mara Küchler has a great year ahead of her while enjoying her stay at Audubon and many memories will be made.
