My Little Pony is a popular toy series from the 80's, but since the 2010 release of the television show, “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic,” an unexpected new group of people have appeared. They call themselves “Bronies,” which is the name given to the large Internet community of adult men who enjoy this child-based television show. The adult women are called "Pegasisters." According to Wikipedia, between 7 and 11 million people consider themselves “Bronies” in the United States.
This Internet community is not just about watching the show, many also get together with other “Bronies” and discuss previous episodes or go to the largest “My Little Pony” convention in America: “BronyCon”, which is held in New York. Many attend these conventions dressed as their favorite characters from the show, some, however, may only design their own “cutie-mark,” a picture that represents each pony in the show, and wear it on their clothing.
With almost 3% of the population being “Bronies”, there is bound to be one in Audubon. Josh Weston, a junior, is a self-proclaimed “Brony”. When asked what he likes about “My Little Pony,” he just responded with, “I like the songs, the colors, and the cute things that the ponies do.” While Weston is very confident in his love for this television show he claims that some people give him a hard time. “Some people have referred to us as the 'cancer of the Internet,' but most people are pretty indifferent.” He says that if you like the show, but are too embarrassed, it’s best to admit it and be confident in yourself. “It’s not that difficult,” said Weston.
