Has it really been four years? Was it really almost eight semesters ago that the first MacBooks rolled out of the library and were handed to the students of the 2011-2012 school year? Yes it was, and with only one more year in the lease from Apple, those same Macbook’s could be gone very soon. With the 1:1 program almost up, the future of technology at Audubon is in question. Will the school lease different Macs? Will they buy the current MacBook’s permanently? Or switch to tablets or another similar medium, such as Chromebooks?
Freshman Kade Jensen said, “We’ll probably have to use the old ones. I don’t want to because they’re slow, but I think we’ll have to.”
Junior Andrew Blomme concurs by stating, “I want new computers, but I understand why we can’t. The ones we have now have really taken a beating.”
With the decision still in limbo, students have to wonder if technology will even be present in the classroom in a year. Students managed without much technology until fall of 2011, but have the new students become too attached to their electronic devices? Whatever the future holds for the students of Audubon High, be it MacBook’s or tablets, only time will tell.
