Men seem to get a lot of pressure in particular. Jason Hines, a sophomore, said he doesn’t like Valentine’s Day and agrees that men get all the pressure on this day; “What guy asks his girl to take him out on a date to a fancy dinner or movie,” said Hines. Although it’s nice for a guy to be a gentleman, since when does that mean a girl can’t do anything for him? It’s estimated that 64% of men buy flowers on Valentine’s Day while only 36% of women do.
Junior Hannah Lange said it’s pretty selfish for some girls to be hard on guys or expect them to buy them really expensive gifts. According to CNN, the average amount of money a person spends on the day is about $130 and the total amount of money spent on Valentine’s Day is $18.6 billion.
Lange said, “Some people make it so overrated compared to what it should be, to me people treat is as an excuse to do something nice that you could do any other day.” Even though Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about love, a lot of people hate it.
