Even with a new choir teacher this year, the Audubon High School jazz choir still dominates in competitions, getting first place at the WIC jazz competition.
The students in jazz choir, no matter if they have be in it since they were a freshmen or they just started this year, have said how much they loved preforming at WIC competition. Senior Kaitlin Andersen said she loves working with the new choir teacher, Mrs. Coder, and that she likes how Coder “lets us do our own ideas, asks for our opinion, and trusts us enough to let us work on our own.”
Junior Becca Nowicke said that it was her first year in jazz choir and that she absolutely loved performing in front of people and said her favorite thing was “the reward of winning first place after singing on stage.” Nowicke is excited to do it again next year preforming hoping to “work on songs more and have more practices” because she loves to sing.
"Come on Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners was the most popular of the three songs they sang for competition among the students. Andersen said she liked it because “it is a fast, up-beat song that is complex and fun to sing.”
Nowicke said she thought it might be because it was the song they worked on the most.
Since Andersen is a senior, this is her last year performing for jazz choir. She said her favorite moment was “getting first at contest and begin able to preform.” She said she is going to miss it and “just being able to sing together as a group and have fun.” It was an emotional year for all the jazz choir students and hopes are high for the rest of the season.
