On Friday, March 6, Audubon’s National Honor Society (NHS) is hosting a different kind of dance as a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. Instead of the usual spring fling, where everyone comes dressed up, NHS calls this dance a MORP, which is prom spelled backwards, meaning everyone comes in casual clothes, like sweats and a t-shirt. NHS member Morgan Oakley said, “Tess [Albright] just kind of threw the idea [for a MORP] out there and it stuck.”
NHS doing a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis has a personal connection for Audubon. Sophomore Katie Konkler has been dealing with Cystic Fibrosis her whole life. “It’s a genetic disease so my brother and I were born with it. I was not diagnosed until I was seven years old, shortly after my brother was born.” Katie is the type of girl who doesn’t like to wear dresses and thinks having a MORP will be more fun for everyone. “No one has to worry about looking nice and you can focus more on just having fun with your friends.” Katie also thinks more people will participate in a MORP because “it is something different and we haven’t really done anything like it.”
The NHS has another fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis; March 4 and 5 students can purchase stickers for one dollar to wear a hat on March 6.
