Now that the school year is winding down to a close and summer is approaching, many students are thinking about work. The span of summer is a great opportunity for high school students to pick up a job and start saving up for their future. Some students have applied for jobs already, or have a plan set in mind of what they are going to do.
Geena Weber, a junior at Audubon High School said, “I applied to [a retail store] and I am thinking about applying at a dairy farm out in Ross for the summer…and hopefully the next.” Working two jobs may seem like a lot of work, but it pays off in the long run. And during the summer, there is an ample amount of time for high school students to run amuck, so why not spend the time earning money? Weber said, “During the school year, I have a lot going on so I can never fit work into my schedule. In the summer there is a lot more time for work and I don’t have to worry about homework or school activities.” Most of the students at AHS are involved in several activities throughout the school year, sometimes even two or three at once. It makes sense for students to seek out job opportunities during the warm months of summer when all of these activities don’t demand their attention. Weber also said, “I recommend a summer job to almost all high school students, it’s a great time to find out what you like, and to also earn money while you’re doing it.”
